SO.....................What are Tri colours ? Kirton Charlie and below.
Tri and Bi coloureds have been around foryears and are a very old variety,
However due to the difficulty of the breed , there are sadly few breeders attempting this hard but attractive colourway.
As the name suggests three colours (two in Bi's) in any combination of colours are required (one colour must be white), however the colours must not be Black, red and white together as this colourway is a Tort & white and has it's own breed standard, or Black and red (BI) as this is aTort
Tri should be marked in patched similar to those of Torts & whites and a checker board pattern should be priority , in reality this is very hard to acheive, but the aim is to have an imaginary line running along the spine and under the belly broken by coloured patches.( i am often told somebody has a tri and unfortunately it turns out simply to be a missmarked tort & white, or is three coloures with no patch pattern this does NOT a tri Make)!
The ideal is to have both colours on the head, and all three colours on each side of the body alternating, with good clean edges, size, shape and colour.
A solid head is preferred to a blaze ,( which is a common fault ie Dutch head) but it is perfectly acceptable to have all three colours on the head each colour either side of the white blaze( note. split face ie two colours in Bi no blaze) other faults include banding, belting, breaching, solid side and brindling (not to be confused with Agouti & Argente colouration, which is acceptable) Patches to be clear and distinct, eyes large & bold, ears rose petal , cobby sort with good rounded head not ratty.
KATE
The Tri & Bi have full breed standard and are looked after by the R.V.C.C.
The dream of every Tri & Bi colour breeder is to breed a perfect patched pig!Still dreaming!
